French dip sandwich on a toasted roll with a ramekin of au jus and visible steam.

French Dip Sandwiches

Classic American French Dip Sandwiches with tender, juicy beef soaked in rich broth, perfect for lunch or dinner.

  • Total Time: 495 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds beef roast
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 23 rolls (French or hoagie)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh herbs (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Season the beef roast with salt and pepper.
  2. In a slow cooker, add the sliced onion, garlic, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and the beef roast.
  3. Cook on low for 480 minutes or until the beef is tender.
  4. Once done, shred the beef and return it to the au jus.
  5. Toast the rolls and pile high with the shredded beef.
  6. Serve with a side of the au jus for dipping.

Notes

Use a roast with good marbling for tenderness and flavor. Let the beef rest before shredding to keep it juicy. Toast rolls just before serving for the best texture.
